
Derek Hamill
Derek is dual qualified solicitor, registered in England and Scotland. He started his career in the legal team of a defence company in 1996. After entering private practice in 1998, he has focused on advising companies of all sizes on the legal issues they face.
In 2014, he was one of the founding partners of Gilson Gray LLP – the largest ever launch of a new Scottish law firm, and a significant disruptor in that market. He is their Head of Corporate, providing advice to clients throughout the UK and beyond.
Derek’s clients include manufacturing and tech companies operating globally. He advises on legal issues associated with finance, product development, licensing and distribution.The 2020 edition of the Legal 500 (leading independent directory of law firms) quotes clients as saying Derek’s “knowledge of international contract law and business is exceptional.”
He is also an accredited trainer, and has presented at various events on matters relating to the law around device regulation, data security, medical consent, and, negligence in the medical device and pharma industries. His discussions draw upon his experience not only of the law, but of how it works in practice.
